This is a coach tour for groups that includes a visit to the magnificent kauri trees of the Puketi Forest, as well as a traditional Maori welcome onto a marae, and entry and tour of the Waitangi Treaty Grounds.
We travel along the Waka Trail where waka (canoe) were carried across the land from the west to the east coast. Along the way we will pass ancient pa sites (fortified villages) and visit the site of the first Maori/European land wars.
Visitors will meet local Maori, and participate in a traditional welcome, in one of the oldest Marae (carved meeting houses) in the North. This is a place where Maori customs and language are widely used and spoken and have not succumbed to the influence of the western world.
The tour also visits the historically signficant Waitangi Treaty Grounds; site of the signing of the Treaty of Waitangi by Maori Chiefs and representatives of the Crown.
